Welcome to Winelands
Family Practice

“The ideal family physician is an explorer, driven by a persistent curiosity and the desire to know more. He is part theologian, part politician and part humorist. At all times, however, he holds the care of the patient somewhat sacred.” – author unknown

Why go to a family Physician?

All doctors in South Africa complete a 5- or 6-year medical degree at an accredited university. The difference between a General Practitioner and a Family Physician is that the latter completes an additional four years of specialist training in Family Medicine, similar to surgeons, anaesthetists and paediatricians, who complete training in their specialist fields.

Included in the Family Medicine training, is additional training in the following fields:

A

Anaesthetics

A

Psychiatry

A

Orthopaedics

A

Paediatrics

A

Surgery

A

Emergency Medicine

A

Internal Medicine

A

Obstetrics & Gynaecology

A

Palliative Care

This training does not imply that the Family Physician is a mini specialist in all the above fields. It rather empowers your doctor to provide comprehensive and informed care for the whole family.
